For the past several years, the end of Le Labo’s artistic season has been the occasion for a new partnership with the Image Festival. The concept? To transform Le Labo’s studio into an exhibition space for a month in order to highlight the work of a French-Canadian artist.

The programming committee has chosen three films this year, by director, producer and cinematographer Miryam Charles:
Song for the New World
A Fortress
Every day in May

Song for the new world: following the disappearance of her father, a girl remembers the words sung before nightfall. Through this experimental and contemplative film shot in 16mm, punctuated by nostalgic Creole melodies, Myriam Charles takes us into a world on the edge of reality where her relationship to family, exile and the feeling of belonging are all intertwined. Song for a new world / Chanson pour le nouveau monde won the award for best art house short film at the Filministes festival in 2022.

A Fortress: after the death of their adopted daughter, a couple travels to Haiti to find her family members. There, they meet a DNA specialist who is said to possess the power of resurrection.

Everyday in May: following the shooting of a documentary on the death of her daughter, a mother reflects on her own life and especially on the passing of time.

See you on June 8 for a virtual talk with the director.
