With a diploma in fine arts from Mauritius, Mariam Poinen pursued her studies at the University Aix-Marseille 1 in south of France. She has been teaching visual arts in high schools for more than 10 years. She currently lives in Mississauga and teaches visual art in a French secondary school in Brampton .

Alongside her profession, she devotes her time to her passion for the arts. Inspired by the surrounding smell of nature and her concern for the environment, she uses natural dyes and pigments to create accidental effects and prints on the canvas. Her style is often strongly influenced by the work of artist Marian Clayden.

About the “Membre du Mois” event

The “Membre du Mois” is a free event open to the public in which one of the members of Le Labo will be honoured. The guest of honour will have “carte blanche” to present their work, past, present and/or future, as well as what motivates them in their pursuits. A friendly and casual occasion, each “Membre du Mois” event is a unique opportunity for members and the public to come together and share ideas and projects.
