Born in Portugal and having lived for over 25 years on Turtle Island (also known as Canada), I am a visual artist, designer, and curator based in T’Karonto. I draw with threads and textile fibers. I weave, intertwine, and forge connections between the virtual and the material, between the imaginary and the tangible. I am fascinated by the omnipresence of virtual communications and the invisible connections that link all living beings. We are part of a vast network of interconnected relationships on which our lives depend for our most basic needs. To make this very real yet invisible aspect of our lives visible and tangible, I turn to thread. When intertwined or woven into particular structures, it becomes very strong, just like the bonds of which we are a part.<\/p>\n
By using textiles as a means to reflect on gender conditions and inequalities, I propose a different approach to the use of fibers and textile materials, raising awareness of aspects of our culture that go unnoticed but shape our lives. I hope to awaken new ways of seeing the world and share moments of wonder that enrich our daily lives.<\/p>\n
In everything I create, I strive to be socially and ecologically responsible. As much as possible, I choose natural, recycled, and local materials. I am always looking for ways to reduce my ecological footprint. Eventually, I aim for my activities to be completely planet-neutral.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
