Workshop : The Basics of Screenwriting for Dramatic Film

This workshop is offered in French<\/p>\n

Description :<\/strong>
\nThrough a variety of exercises, this workshop will explore narrative structure as well as the development of characters and dialogue. Workshop participants will learn the essentials of scene construction for fiction film-making while gaining an understanding of the basic elements of screenwriting.<\/p>\n

During the course of this workshop, participants will work on practical exercises which will be accompanied by presentations on screenwriting theory, demonstrations and short videos that will help them to better understand character development along with scene and dialogue structure. By the end of the day, participants will have written a one page scene that they can share with the group.<\/p>\n

About the instructor:
\n<\/em>Nadine Valcin<\/a> <\/strong>is an award winning bilingual producer, writer and director. She has directed four documentary projects for the National Film Board of Canada, including the critically acclaimed Black, Bold and Beautiful<\/em> (1999), Une \u00e9cole sans fronti\u00e8res<\/em> (A School without Borders)<\/a> (2005) and\u00a0\u00c0 quand la justice<\/span><\/a><\/em> (2006)<\/span>. Most recently, she has written and directed three short dramatic films and is developing two feature films: Terre d’asile<\/em> (in French) and My Own Angel<\/em> (in English). Nadine has been awarded numerous grants and prizes including the prestigious Chalmers Arts Fellowship and a Drama Prize from the National Screen Institute for the short film In Between \/ Entre Deux<\/em><\/a>. She holds a professional degree in architecture from McGill University and is an alumnus of the DOC Lab, the Women In the Director’s Chair, and the National Screen Institute. She was an artist-in-residence at Osgoode Hall Law School at York University for the 2015-2016 academic year. She currently serves as president of the FRIC (Front des r\u00e9alisateurs ind\u00e9pendants du Canada) and she is the producer of BRBR<\/em>, a show about emerging music by Groupe M\u00e9dia TFO.<\/p>\n
