Come have your lunch with us while you find our more about tools that can help your career!
\nThis information session will help you find different resources and professional development tools to better understand the media arts sector.
\nCirculating and distributing your works is an essential\u00a0part of a long-lasting and autonomous art practice. The short presentations by our guests will be followed by an open conversation about the challenges and tactics useful to breaking into the media arts landscape.<\/p>\n

Each of our invited guests will have their own recommendations to help you find the right strategy and how to get your work out there, since it deserves to be seen!<\/p>\n

Established in 1967, CFMDC is a not-for-profit, artist-run centre that has since grown and evolved into a world-renowned distributor of independent media art.\u00a0 We honour our collective history of avant-garde art film, while playing a key-role in determining a more contemporary definition of distribution in the digital milieu. Now in our 50th year, with 3700+ films in our catalogue by over 1000 members, CFMDC is one of the most enduring, respected, forward thinking, and engaged, distribution centres in Canada.

Vtape<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Vtape is a vibrant distribution organization that represents an international collection of contemporary and historical video art and media works by artists. We make this collection accessible to curators and programmers, educators, scholars and public audiences worldwide. In addition to providing a distribution framework for established and emerging artists, Vtape is committed to establishing video art preservation and exhibition standards, and strives to support hybrid practices in an increasingly complex technical milieu.

Madi Piller<\/a><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Madi Piller is a filmmaker, animator, programmer and independent curator currently living and working in Toronto, Canada. Her abstract, nonrepresentational and poetic images are\u00a0drawn from film explorations in Super 8, 16mm and 35mm, as well as photography\u00a0and video. The resulting imagery is strongly influenced by diverse animation\u00a0techniques and styles. Madi\u2019s films have been screened at film festivals, alternative spaces and contemporary\u00a0art venues nationally and internationally including TIFF Wavelengths, the Festival du Cinema Jeune,\u00a0Paris, France, Bienal de La Imagen Movimiento, Buenos Aires, Argentina and the\u00a0Melbourne Animation Festival, Melbourne, Australia. Her work has been produced\u00a0with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, Ontario Arts Council, and the\u00a0Toronto Arts Council. She is a recipient of the\u00a0Chalmers Arts Fellowship. International residencies include Museum Quartier21, Vienna Austria,\u00a0the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture, Yukon, NWT\u00a0and the Independent Imaging Retreat, Durham, Ontario.<\/p>\n

\u200b<\/span>Curatorial\u00a0projects include: Eleven in Motion: Abstract Expressions in Animation, Hello Amiga, OP ART Re-Imaged: Imaginable Spaces, The Frame is the Keyframe : Frame Anomalies, From A to Z : Film Screening and Exhibition in Vienna.

Marcelle Lean<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Founder and Executive \/ Artistic Director of Cin\u00e9franco<\/em><\/strong> since 1997, Marcelle Lean has had several careers in the theater, translation and education before volunteering at many arts organizations in Toronto. Her knowledge of the film industry was honed by her experience in T\u00e9l\u00e9film Canada’s (Member) Board of Directors and by the Board Chair of OMDC. Her experience has made her travel to be a juror or programmer at international film festivals. Marcelle Lean is a cultural activist and has a wide range of partnerships with Toronto libraries, associations, local community festivals and more.
