Participants will learn about preservation standards, terminlogy, resources and archival best practices. The session will focus on how artists can care for their own artwork at home and in the studio.<\/p>\n<p>Workshop Participants will learn:<br \/>\n\u2013\tAbout the construction of video and photographic media (anolague and digital)<br \/>\n\u2013\tHow to identify deterioration and inherent instabilities<br \/>\n\u2013\tThe qualities of good and bad storage environments<br \/>\n\u2013\tMedia specific storage and handling techniques<br \/>\n\u2013\tBest practices for organization and labeling<br \/>\n\u2013\tWhere to locate archival supplies and conservation specialists<\/p>\n<p>Workshop&rsquo;s plan:<br \/>\n1.\tIntroduction to archiving: what is preservation and why is it important?<br \/>\n2.\tHow media is constructed, and why it matters<br \/>\n3.\tThe storage environment: temperature, humidity and packing materials<br \/>\n4.\tHow to store and handle videotape<br \/>\n5.\tHow to store and handle photographs<br \/>\n6.\tHow to store and handle digital video and photographs<br \/>\n7.\tHow to organize and label your work<br \/>\n8.\tLocating archival suppliers and specialists<\/p>\n<p>KRISTIE MACDONALD<br \/>\nKristie MacDonald is an archivist and artist based in Toronto, Ontario. As an archival consultant she specializes in the areas of perseveration and collections management. She holds a BFA from York University specializing in Visual Arts, and an MI from the University of Toronto specializing in Archives and Records Management. Kristie\u2019s research and writing is currently focused on media art preservation and artist-run centre archives.
