In Montreal, the figure is around 30%. How do you feel about living between two countries (Canada and Lebanon)? Do you feel there&rsquo;s a difference between Toronto and Montreal?<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>We&rsquo;re co-presenting Joyce&rsquo;s latest film, <em>Remain in the no longer<\/em>, with Images Festival on Friday April 12 at 8pm<\/strong> at Innis Town Hall as part of an evening entitled A city in pursuit, where we&rsquo;ll be questioning what determines a city&rsquo;s failure or success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Joyce Joumaa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joyce Joumaa is a video artist and writer based between Beirut and Montreal. After growing up in Lebanon, she pursued a BFA in Film Studies at Concordia University. Her work focuses on micro-histories within Lebanon, as a means of understanding how past structures influence the present moment. She is interested in the political charge inscribed in spaces and the social psychology that stems from this tension. Her current research focuses on Lebanon&rsquo;s post-colonial education system and the maritime border conflict with Israel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>L&rsquo;inertie du vide<\/em> \/ <em>Remain in the no longer<\/em> \/ \u0643\u06cc\u0641 \u0644\u0627 \u0646\u063a\u0631\u0642 \u0641\u064a \u0627\u0644\u0633\u0631\u0627\u0628<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Remain in the no longer<\/em> is an experimental documentary film, drawing on archival material, interviews and 16mm and digital film. It examines the political and cultural forces that have been exerted on the site of the Tripoli International Fair, imagined by architect Oscar Niemeyer &#8211; from the interruption of construction to forced abandonment, via attempts at reappropriation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>We warmly thank our partner, Festival Images, for this wonderful opportunity to showcase our work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We also extend our gratitude to our funders: the Ontario Arts Council, Canadian Heritage, and the Toronto Arts Council.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joyce Joumaa&rsquo;s work explained by the artist herself?
