Madi Piller is a filmmaker, animator, programmer, and independent curator. She currently lives and works in Toronto, Canada. Her abstract, non-figurative, and poetic images result from her cinematographic explorations in Super 8, 16 mm, and 35 mm, as well as photography and video. The resulting imagery is strongly influenced by various animation techniques and styles.
Madi’s films have been screened at film festivals, alternative spaces, and contemporary art venues in Canada and abroad, including TIFF Wavelengths, the Festival du Cinéma Jeune in Paris, the Biennale de la Imagen en Movimiento in Buenos Aires, and the Melbourne Animation Festival. Her work has been produced with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council, and the Chalmers Arts Fellowship.
She has completed international residencies, notably at Museum Quartier21 in Vienna, the Klondike Institute of Art and Culture in Yukon, and the Independent Imaging Retreat in Durham, Ontario.
