Ron Loranger is a Franco-Ontarian artist, originally from Kapuskasing, who has lived in Toronto for several years. The Blobettes, or Blobs, are certainly his most well-known works: they have been exhibited in various galleries in Canada and abroad, and frequently reappear in Ron’s work.
Ovoid and abstract circles, sometimes minimalist, often colorful, the Blobettes—made of watercolor and India ink—can take on different meanings: floating islands in the middle of the ocean, planets orbiting an unexplored galaxy, or juxtaposed with less abstract drawings to give them a certain depth, a new meaning.
Social media, the Internet, pop culture, fragments of everyday life, art history, and more personal references feed this visual universe. Deconstructed then reassembled, these images compose a rich language that is at once playful, precise, and deeply rooted in its time.
