Mathieu Léger Residency

Mathieu Léger Residency

Le Labo welcomes Mathieu Léger in residency, continuing its commitment to artists in research and experimentation. This residency provides time for work, reflection, and development in a context conducive to creation in media and visual arts. Mathieu Léger works in several disciplines: performance, photography, sculpture, and installation. Since graduating from the Université de Moncton in 1998, he has worked in his studio (La Factrie) at the Aberdeen Cultural Centre in Moncton, NB, Canada. In 2000, he began a series of residencies that took him to northern Quebec and the Banff Centre for the Arts, then directed him toward Europe. After some time producing work in Ireland and Scotland, Mathieu Léger participated in a residency at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris-Cergy in 2002.

His work explores the complexity of society through performance, photography, architecture, and science. In sculpture and installation, his concerns revolve around minimalism and design.

Léger has served on several artist-run centre boards and is deeply involved in the artistic community. Currently, he is interested in scenography and video.

He lives and works in Moncton, NB, Canada.
