Screening & QA | Johanne tout simplement

Screening of Johanne tout simplement by Nadine Valcin at Le Labo, presented as part of National Canadian Film Day with Reel Canada.

A touching 75-minute portrait highlighting Johanne Harel, a Canadian model with an extraordinary career. This second evening (2/2) honors a filmmaker and a significant work released in 2024. An iconic figure, she made history by becoming one of the first models of African descent to establish herself on the North American scene.

Once abandoned on the steps of a Montreal orphanage, Johanne Harel, an artist and actress, led a life that reflected her character: complex and bold. Through archival footage, interviews with loved ones, and the interpretation of her writings by three contemporary actresses, the film subtly reveals the trajectory of a magnetic and determined woman.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session, offering a special opportunity to delve deeper into the film’s themes and engage in dialogue about this significant work.
