Of Haitian origin and having grown up in Quebec City and then in Iqaluit since 2014, Murielle Jassinthe is a renowned interdisciplinary artist and researcher, and a member of the Canada Research Chair in African and Francophone Literatures at Laval University, where she is pursuing her studies. Her career combines a diverse literary production (poetry, short stories, essays, theater) and a strong social commitment to diversity, inclusion, and social justice, notably through the co-founding of the Nunavut Black History Society and the Nunavut Theater Company. Driven by a desire to promote identity pride and support marginalized communities, she created artistic programs such as the Boda Boda Camp and founded two companies, Black Lantern Inc. and Black Lantern Media Inc., to support the strategic and creative development of artists while exploring themes of decolonization and the representation of Afro-descendant, Indigenous, and 2SLGBTQIA+ realities.
