Night screening longue-vue is a new meeting of Le Labo reserved for professionals in the media arts sector and cinema in general. These meetings combine screenings, networking and debate around the discovery of premiere of creations by our francophone artists in the region. This October, Katia Café-Fébrissy opens the ball with her latest documentary-hybrid MOUN AN BA LA: French Caribbean Diaspora in Toronto. 

MOUN AN BA LA: French Caribbean Diaspora in Toronto is an ode of bicultural identity through the prism of two Afro-French women of Caribbean heritage. It is a film within a film, shot over a three-year period, where cinema verite and visual poetry collide to explore the question: “ To which culture do I belong?”

Le Labo is a space for artistic experimentation and production in the field of media arts, interdisciplinarity and digital art. Otherwise known as le Laboratoire d’Art, it is Toronto’s only artist-run center and Ontario’s only francophone media arts and new media production center.

To support the unique sensibilities and realities of Francophone culture, Le Labo cultivates multiple activities with a focus on research, innovation, collaboration and training. In addition to access to a beautiful incubator space at 401 Richmond and professional equipment, its programming includes residencies, workshops and talks, as well as screenings and exhibitions.

The objectives of the 2022-2025 programming are to welcome francophone artistic creation in the GTA and to bring together, in the same space, places of learning and artistic expression as a springboard to the future.

Katia Café-Fébrissy

Katia Café-Fébrissy is a member of Le Labo. She is a bilingual writer, director and author who works in French and English. Her audiovisual productions include documentary films and episodes of documentary series. She also writes for television and theater and directs. Katia co-hosts the podcast of the Directors Guild of Canada of which she is a member. She is also a member of the Playwrights Guild and the Society of Radio, Television and Film Authors. She holds a Master’s degree in documentary film from Ateliers Varan, France and a Master’s degree in Literature and Languages from the University of Paris VIII, France.
