Martha Black
Born in France in ’99, Marthe began painting and acting as an extra-curricular activity at an early age. Expatriated to Canada at the age of 10, she grew up in Ottawa and continued to paint, leading to her first commission. In high school, her film classes made her realize that she wanted to make a living on the set. She moved to Lyon (France) to complete a degree in Directing and Staging, then worked as a project manager in a production agency for over 2 years, while compiling indie shoots of short films and music videos where she acted as scripte, DP or director. It was also early in her career that she had her first solo exhibition of paintings. Now based in Toronto, Marthe is expanding her practice as a media artist by directing her first medium-length documentary, exhibiting her paintings in various institutions in Ontario, and working for various French-language theater companies as a translator or stage manager
