LE LABO CALLS ON YOUNG FILMMAKERS FOR A RESIDENCY IN CINEMA

Le Labo joins forces with Festival les Percéides and CinéFranco to offer a documentary film residency in Percé, Gaspésie (Québec).

Two young emerging francophone filmmakers from Ontario (aged 18 to 30) will be selected to participate in the residency with filmmaker Jacquelyn Mills and Quebec filmmaker and composer Benjamin R Taylor. The residency will run from September 22 to 29, 2024, at the Festival Les Percéides’ Summer Film School.

Through group sessions and individual interviews, writing and shooting exercises, sound and film viewing, the aim is to identify and formulate both the formal and conceptual outlines of each participant’s project: to move from a dream film to a film in the making.

The instructors will support each participant in his or her approach to the subject. This day-to-day sharing will give rise to ideas, hypotheses and avenues of work that will ensure the anchoring and continuation of the development work after the training course.

WHAT DOES THE RESIDENCY INCLUDE?

  • Training in writing and directing at the Festival Les Percéides’ Summer Film School.

At Le Labo, we are aware that the arts programming system perpetuated over the years has harmed and continues to harm disproportionately the most marginalized people in society, including First Nations, Inuit and Métis people, people of color, working-class people, women and LGBTQ+ people. Because we believe that these communities must be at the heart of our reality, we strongly encourage applications from people with these identities or from other marginalized communities. Applicants who have difficulty providing the requested material in the suggested form can contact the team at programmation@lelabo.ca and we will make suitable arrangements for the submission of a file.
