This workshop will focus on the digitizing and archival of visual and time-based works of art.
After a short introduction on about preservation standards and terminology, Kristie MacDonald will guide us into the different possibilities of classification and organization of digital files and the best practices for optimal and efficient archives that are easy to manage for today and future reference. The digitizing of visual art, the archiving of sound and audiovisual art and the different available archival media will among the subjects discussed. The presentation will be accompanied by a list of resources and practical references.

Abour the instructor
Kristie MacDonald is an archivist and artist based in Toronto, Ontario. As an archival consultant she specializes in the areas of preservation and collections management. She holds a BFA from York University specializing in Visual Arts, and an MI from the University of Toronto specializing in Archives and Records Management. Kristie’s research and writing is currently focused on media art preservation and artist-run centre archives. She has worked with arts organizations across the country including Vtape, CARFAC Ontario, SAW Video, Video Pool, Grunt Gallrey, and VIVO Media Arts Centre.
