Mathieu Léger oeuvre dans plusieurs disciplines : la performance, la photographie, la sculpture et l’installation. Depuis l’obtention de son diplôme de l’Université de Moncton en 1998, il travaille dans son atelier (La Factrie) au Centre culturel Aberdeen à Moncton, NB, Canada. En 2000, il entame une série de résidences qui l’entraînent dans le nord du Québec et au Banff Centre for the Arts, pour ensuite le diriger vers l’Europe. Après quelque temps de production en Irlande et en Écosse, Mathieu Léger participe à une résidence à l’École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris-Cergy en 2002.
Son travail explore la complexité de la société à travers la performance, la photographie, l’architecture et la science. En sculpture et en installation ses préocupations tournent autour du minimalisme et du design.
Léger a siégé à plusieurs conseils d’administration de centres d’artistes et est très impliqué dans la communauté artistique. Présentement, il s’intéresse à la scénographie et à la vidéo.
Il vit et travaille à Moncton, NB, Canada.

Mathieu Léger works with several media: performance, photography, sculpture and installation. Since his graduation at Moncton University in 1998, he works in his studio (La Factrie) in the Cultural Centre Aberdeen in Moncton, NB, Canada. In 2000, he starts a series of residencies and goes to the north of Canada, to the Banff Centre for the Arts an then to Europe. After his stay in Ireland and Scotland, Léger was invited for a residency at the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris-Cergy in 2002.
His work explores the complexity of society through performance, photography, architecture and science. He questions minimalism and design through sculptures and installations.
Léger is in boards of directors of several artist-run centres and is strongly involved in the artistic community. Currently, his interest lays in scenography and video.
He lives and works in Moncton, NB, Canada.
