Artists : Violaine Lafortune & Denis Taman Bradette
Date: Thursday, May 11 2023 from 5:30pm
Location: Le Labo studio (Zoom invitation for members living outside of the city)
After three weeks of intense reflection, walks in the city and in parks, discussions, experimentation and all kinds of logistical challenges, Violaine and Denis are getting ready to wrap up.
At the Le Labo, we are a little sad to see them go. We loved being witnesses of this joint artistic emulation. We also like to see the walls of the studio fulfill their primary function as a refuge for creation.
Therefore, we are opening the doors of the studio for an informal talk on Thursday, May 11, starting at 5:30 pm. Violaine and Denis will share their work with us and explain what the notion of « ephemeral cartography » means to them.
- What is a cartography?
- What area does it cover (or does it have a limit?)
- Do you think that the geographical context (urban or rural) changes the morphology of a cartography?
- Can we map without leaving a trace?
- Where does ephemerality begin on a time scale?
- How do we feel about the city and its rhythm (beginning of residency, middle of residency, end of residency)?
- Do you believe that we can put ourselves in fallow land?
We will take this opportunity to say goodbye to Violaine who is going back home to Rouyn-Noranda, and wish Laura and Denis good luck as they begin the second stage of the residency at L’Écart, starting June 1st 2023.
